Another development of note in 2004 was the regular participation in dialogue of timber companies through associations such as ADEX (National Exporters Association) and AIMAL (Association of the Timber Industry of Loreto) with the government authorities. These associations together represent 80% of the national timber exporters and they hold regular meetings and involve the public when developing proposals for the government. The same associations, AIMAL and ADEX and other private companies supported the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) in the creation of the National Secretariat of the Wood Sector. They organized two technological missions to Brazil in order to improve and optimize the infrastructure of the national primary (sawnwood, plywood and veneer) and secondary industry (mouldings, blanks, decking and furniture). Additionally, proposals were presented to other government institutions -such as INRENA and the Ministry of Agriculture- suggesting changes to the current forestry policies and on ways to improve the socio - economic development of the sector.
